Mercy Youth Chat was started by two sisters and their childhood friend from Surrey, British Columbia, Canada. They saw a lack of support for Muslim youth in their community and felt the need to do something about it. Growing up as first generation Canadian Muslims all three young women experienced the impact of challenges regarding mental health, culture clash and identity crisis from a young age. They gathered together and made it their mission to start MYChat for the youth by the youth in hopes to provide support and help to those in need in a time where mental health is still stigmatized.
Ahlam Tufail was born and raised in Canada. Growing up in a western society as a first generation Canadian she understood the struggles the muslim youth faced. Coming from a mixed heritage she never felt like she belonged and struggled to find a Muslim community at a young age. Into her adulthood she managed to find a small community for youth where she spent most her time volunteering. Eventually that lead her to pursue Islamic studies at Madina Institute in Atlanta with Dr.Shaykh Muhammad Ninowy. The experience was transformative and helped her gain the confidence as a young Muslim woman. In her free time she enjoys writing poetry and spending time with her family.
