The Prophet, on him be peace, famously said: “When a human being dies, all one’s deeds cease, save three: a Sadaqah Jariyah, [religious] knowledge [one leaves behind] from which others benefit, and a righteous child who prays for one” (Muslim).
Madina Mercy believes that no one should have to live without clean water. According to the CDC, more than 785 million people do not have access to basic water services. That means increased exposure to dehydration, malnutrition, and deathly diseases.
80% of our brains are water. Even being slightly dehydrated can lead to many issues, like stress, lack of memory, and decreased attention.
People in villages with no water use precious time to walk to neighboring villages just to get clean water. That water is to take care of basic needs like cooking, drinking, washing clothes, and taking a shower.
A lot of time is wasted walking for water that could be used for school, making a living, and remembering Allah. Having access to water increases quality of life physically and spiritually.
Think about each reward you’ll receive for the children and adults who have clean drinking water. Don’t forget the animals, plants, and insects that benefit from the water well too!
Madina Mercy has already built wells in five villages in Nigeria. The positive impacts of water access are endless. Children have time for school, parents are able to be more productive, and no one gets thirsty.
Madina Mercy plans to build more wells in villages across the world where there is no water due to drought. Let’s make that a reality.
